What is the main difference between gastric bypass and lap band?

Is it possible to have lap band and then have the bypass, if necessary? How much weight can I expect to lose with lap band?
Thanks for any information you give.

Weight loss boost with missing thyroid?

Okay I go to the gym regularly, as in every day except weekends. I do cardio mon, wed, fri, and weight train tue thurs, and then switch the next week. I’ve been doing pretty good I just have 9 weeks until my husband gets home from deployment and while I’ve been going to the gym I’ve maintained the same weight.

On top of this might be a factor of I have no thyroid, I had cancer and it had to be removed and so that hinders me a little bit.

I’m just looking for some advice on what might give me a little bit of a extra kick to loose a few more pounds before my husband gets home. I’ve already got the personal trainer, I’ve got the healthy diet ( I splurge on a small square of chocolate every now and then), I don’t eat alot of red meat and eat plenty of leafy greens, but I still haven’t managed to loose any weight.

I have been in the care of the doctor who has already told me that while I’m not on the right dosage of synthetic thyroid hormone they are not going to change it until its been a year plus since my surgeries.

I have seen my private physician also and he wasn’t helpful because his advice was ‘you are going to be this weight no matter what you do now since you don’t have a thyroid’.

Not very helpful. I figured this would be more helpful than them.

Any help would be wonderful, please don’t bash, I’m just looking to improve myself for me first and my husband second. Thank you.
I keep adding to my work outs by 5 minutes, so far I’m up to 50 minutes per elipitical and I also do a sorta crosstrainer of an eliptical and stair stepper. So I guess its just a matter of my thyroid missing that is messing me up.

Why open rather than laproscopic gall bladder removal?

Does anyone know why a doctor would choose open rather than laproscopic surgery to remove a gall bladder?

Does obesity make it more difficult to perform laproscopically or is it the size and/or inflammation of the gall bladder?

Thanks.
No surgery has been scheduled and gall stones/gall bladder infection have been diagnosed. Just researching in case that is what the doctor comes back with. I like to be armed with information and none of the research I’ve done has indicated why a doc would chose one or the other option with a patient.
